CVS is one of our top stores for shopping with coupons. But as CVS starts closing some of their stores, shoppers and couponing pros may need to adjust their strategies.

If your local CVS store is on the closure list, there's still a way to take advantage of the best deals at CVS. You'll just need to learn how CVS delivery works — because you can totally use coupons on delivery orders (it’s one of their advantages in the CVS vs. Walgreens debate)!

Staying ahead of these CVS changes means we can keep enjoying those great finds and mega savings, no matter where we shop.

CVS plans to close 900 stores by the end of 2024.

In 2022, CVS announced they would close 300 stores every year through 2024. This includes some standalone CVS store locations, as well as CVS locations in Target stores, too.

Unfortunately, CVS hasn’t made it very easy to figure out if your neighborhood location is part of the closure. And by this I mean, they haven't released an official list of what locations will be closing, and I didn't get a response when I reached out in April 2024.

But we have heard about a few specific locations closing, as reported by local news publications. Here are the CVS store locations that have closed or will be closing in 2024:

  • Alabama

    • 2901 Morgan Rd., Bessemer, AL

    • 3303 Clairmont Ave., Birmingham, AL

  • California

    • 499 Haight St. San Fransisco, CA

    • 1701 K St., Sacramento, CA

  • Florida

    • 3090 S. Monroe St., Tallahassee, FL

    • 13300 E. Colonial Dr., Orlando, FL

    • 2201 Edgewater Dr., Orlando, FL

  • Georgia

    • 439 Highland Blvd., Atlanta, GA

  • Illinois

    • 8639 S. Cicero Ave., Chicago, IL

    • 401 W. Armitage Ave., Chicago, IL

    • 2000 Skokie Valley Rd., Highland Park, IL

  • Iowa

    • 215 Euclid Ave., Des Moines, IA

  • Massachusetts

    • 55 Summer St., Boston, MA

  • Missouri

    • 9433 Manchester Rd., Saint Louis, MO

    • 4531 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO

  • New York

    • 955 Payne Ave., North Tonawanda, NY

    • 153 Central Ave., Albany, NY

    • 1026 Madison Ave., Albany, NY

  • North Carolina

    • 201 W. 4th St., Winston-Salem, NC

  • Virginia

    • 10390 Willard Way, Fairfax, VA

  • Washington, D.C.

    • 1117 10th St. NW, Washington, D.C.

    • 1100 4th St. SW, Washington, D.C.

    • 400 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Washington, D.C.

    • 1515 New York Ave. NE, Washington, D.C. — Target location

    • 4500 Wisconsin Ave. NW, Washington, D.C. — Target location

    • 7828 Georgia Ave. NW, Washington, D.C. — Target location

CVS has explained that the decision to close locations is influenced by many factors. These include "local market dynamics, shifts in population, the number of stores in the community, and various ways to serve community needs."

But CVS isn’t the first drugstore to close locations in recent months. In March 2024, Rite Aid closed 77 stores with the anticipation to close about 400 locations this year. Walgreens also plans to close around 150 locations and cut 10% of their corporate team in 2024.

Some CVS locations may offer a MinuteClinic or a HealthHUB.

Instead of sticking with one type of CVS store for everyone, they’re planning to roll out three new store formats: the standard CVS pharmacy and retail stores, HealthHUB sites, and MinuteClinic locations within CVS retail stores or Target stores.

While you're probably familiar with MinuteClinic locations — which are run by licensed nurse practitioners and physician associates — the CVS HealthHUB is like an enhanced health care clinic. They offer everything a MinuteClinic has, but they also staff licensed therapists and can handle chronic issues like diabetes. They even have wellness rooms for health classes.

No matter what, you can keep couponing and saving at CVS.

Despite the shift in store locations and formats in 2024, couponing at CVS is not going anywhere, whether you're shopping in-store and online.

If you’ll mostly use CVS online, consider paying for the CVS ExtraCare Plus membership, which offers benefits like free shipping and $10 ExtraBucks rewards each month.
